Site / Construction Manager – Rail & Water Infrastructure
The Opportunity
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Site / Construction Manager to join a leading contractor delivering major water utility and rail-related infrastructure projects across London.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in civil engineering, structures, utilities, and rail environments, who is confident managing complex site activities including sewer network upgrades, deep drainage, and utility diversion works, often within or adjacent to rail infrastructure requiring possession works and strict safety controls.
You will play a key role in delivering high-profile infrastructure projects, managing subcontractors, engineers, and site teams to ensure works are delivered safely, on time, and to specification.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day site operations across water utility and rail-related civil engineering projects.
- Oversee delivery of sewer network construction, drainage systems, utility diversions, and associated civil works.
- Coordinate and manage subcontractors, site engineers, and direct labour teams.
- Lead site activities during rail possession works, ensuring compliance with all possession planning and safety requirements.
- Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Review and interpret construction drawings, RAMS, and method statements.
- Liaise with project managers, planners, and commercial teams to ensure programme targets are achieved.
- Manage site logistics, materials, plant, and resources effectively.
- Conduct site briefings, toolbox talks, and progress meetings.
- Monitor progress against programme and report updates to senior management.
- Ensure compliance with relevant rail standards and water authority specifications.
- Support coordination of interfaces between rail infrastructure and utility diversion works.
About You
- Proven experience as a Site Manager or Construction Manager within civil engineering, utilities, or rail environments.
- Strong background in water infrastructure projects, sewer networks, drainage, and utilities works.
- Experience working on or adjacent to rail infrastructure, including rail possessions and trackside working environments.
- Valid PTS (Personal Track Safety) certification is essential.
- Strong experience managing subcontractors and site engineering teams.
- Solid understanding of civil engineering construction methodologies, particularly in deep excavation and utility installation.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- SMSTS, CSCS (Gold/Black Card), and relevant safety qualifications preferred.
