Site Engineer – Rail & Water Infrastructure
The Opportunity
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Site Engineer to join a leading contractor delivering major water utility and rail interface infrastructure projects across London.
This role is ideal for a technically strong engineer with experience in civil engineering, setting out, CAD design, and quality assurance, who is confident working on sewer networks, drainage systems, utility diversions, and rail-adjacent construction works involving possession environments and strict engineering controls.
You will play a key role in supporting site delivery through accurate setting out, technical assurance, design coordination, and quality management across complex infrastructure schemes.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out accurate setting out and surveying duties using total station and GPS equipment.
- Interpret engineering drawings, IFC packs, and technical specifications to support site delivery.
- Produce and review CAD drawings and as-built records as required.
- Support design coordination and ensure construction aligns with design intent.
- Undertake quality assurance inspections, ITP checks, and ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Support delivery of sewer networks, drainage systems, and utility diversion works.
- Assist with works in rail possession environments, ensuring compliance with all safety and engineering standards.
- Work closely with Site Managers, Project Managers, and subcontractors to ensure smooth delivery.
- Maintain accurate site records, survey data, and QA documentation.
- Identify and resolve technical issues on site in collaboration with design and engineering teams.
- Ensure all works are delivered in line with health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
- Support progress reporting and contribute to programme delivery targets.
About You
- Proven experience as a Site Engineer within civil engineering, utilities, or rail infrastructure projects.
- Strong background in setting out, surveying, and engineering control.
- Experience in water infrastructure projects, including sewer networks, drainage, and utility works.
- Familiarity with rail environments and rail possession working (PTS preferred or essential depending on role requirements).
- Strong CAD skills (AutoCAD or similar) for design support and as-built production.
- Strong understanding of civil engineering construction methodologies.
- Experience with QA processes, ITPs, and technical documentation.
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- CSCS card essential; HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline preferred.
