Senior P6 Planner – Rail Infrastructure
The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior P6 Planner to join a growing Principal Contractor delivering major rail infrastructure projects across the UK.
This is an excellent opportunity to work on high-profile rail programmes within a business that has a strong pipeline of secured work and a reputation for delivering complex infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in planning, project controls, monitoring, and reporting activities across major rail and signalling schemes.
Working closely with project delivery teams, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining robust project programmes, supporting project controls activities, and providing key planning insights to ensure successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and manage integrated project programmes using Primavera P6.
- Produce robust baseline programmes, resource-loaded schedules, and progress updates.
- Implement and manage project controls processes, including progress measurement, forecasting, change control, and performance reporting.
- Monitor project performance and identify programme risks, opportunities, and mitigation strategies.
- Conduct critical path analysis and develop recovery plans where required.
- Produce regular project controls reports, dashboards, earned value analysis, and programme performance metrics.
- Support tender planning activities and provide planning input during bid submissions.
- Review subcontractor programmes and integrate them into the master programme.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Commercial Teams, Engineers, and Site Teams to ensure programme objectives are achieved.
- Ensure programme compliance with client requirements, contractual obligations, and industry standards.
- Support the continuous improvement of planning and project controls processes across the business.
About You
- Proven experience as a Senior Planner, Planning Engineer, or Project Controls professional within a Principal Contractor environment.
- Strong background in civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
- Previous experience delivering rail infrastructure projects, including rail signalling, track, stations, structures, or multidisciplinary rail schemes.
- Demonstrable experience working within a project controls environment, including reporting, forecasting, earned value management, and change control.
- Advanced Primavera P6 experience.
- Strong understanding of rail construction methodologies, project sequencing, and programme management.
- Ability to analyse complex project data and communicate findings effectively to senior stakeholders.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Degree, HNC, HND, or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Controls, or a related discipline.
