3D BIM and Point Cloud Engineer
The Opportunity
An opportunity to join a rail and utilities infrastructure contractor and help develop its 3D modelling, digital surveying and project visualisation capability.
The role is open to graduates, recent qualifiers and applicants who are currently learning or have some practical experience in these areas.
You will help turn site information into clear models, design proposals and visuals for live projects and tenders.
This is a chance to apply your technical interests to real construction challenges, using the company’s existing survey and capture equipment to show existing conditions, explain proposed works and support project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce 3D models, drawings and project visuals to support design proposals, tender submissions and live works.
- Help capture site measurements and spatial information using EDM survey equipment, Matterport and the company’s C1 3D spatial capture camera.
- Process and organise survey data, point clouds and captured imagery, checking accuracy and suitability for the intended use.
- Use captured information to develop existing-condition models and visual representations of proposed works.
- Work with estimating, engineering and delivery teams to understand project requirements and communicate construction proposals clearly.
- Support BIM workflows through organised models, files, revisions and drawing outputs.
- Help the team make better use of its existing equipment and identify practical improvements to digital capture and visualisation methods.
About You
- A graduate, recent qualifier, trainee or early-career professional with an interest in 3D modelling, BIM, point clouds or digital surveying.
- Relevant study, training or practical experience in engineering, surveying, construction, architecture, CAD, BIM or a related area; a degree is not essential.
- Some exposure to relevant CAD, modelling or point cloud software through work, study or personal projects, with a willingness to develop further.
- An interest in working with survey instruments, 3D cameras and site capture technology. Experience with EDM, Matterport or similar equipment would be useful.
- Good attention to detail, a practical approach to problem solving and the ability to explain technical information visually.
- An interest in rail, utilities and infrastructure projects. Previous sector experience is helpful but not essential.
- Applications are welcomed from people still developing their skills as well as those with practical experience. Examples of coursework, models, drawings or visualisation projects would be useful to share.
What's On Offer
- Competitive, depending on experience
